Collectible Characters: How to Start a Collection

Collectible characters are original characters made to be owned in limited numbers — like trading cards or figurines, except the collection lives in your account. AllTheMuse is built entirely on the idea: 1,184 original characters across 79 themed collections, each with a rarity and most with a hard cap on how many editions can ever exist. This guide explains how collectible characters work and how to start a collection of your own.

What Makes a Character Collectible

Three things: the character is original, the supply is limited, and your copy is numbered. Thunderhead Thane is a Divine Muse — only 25 editions of him can ever be claimed, and his edition #1 is already taken. When you claim a capped Muse, the edition number is yours and the counter moves for everyone else.

Unlimited characters are just pictures. A numbered edition of 25 is a collectible — that scarcity, recorded openly on the character's page, is the whole mechanism. It is also why the deepest guide on this site, collectible Muse avatars, starts with editions before it talks about art.

Rarity: The Ladder Every Collection Shares

AllTheMuse uses one ladder everywhere: Common 50 coins with an open edition, Rare 75 (5,000 editions), Epic 100 (1,000), Legendary 150 (250), Mythic 200 (100), Divine 350 (25). A Mythic like Ghostly Boo or Boba Bess will never have more than 100 owners.

Characters also gather into themed sets — a full room of ten, say — and most rooms offer the whole set as a 250-coin bundle, far under the singles total. Finish a set and you earn +100 coins back, which is how collections fund their own sequels.

How to Start Your Collection

Start free and start narrow. A new account begins with 150 Muse Coins at signup and a free starter Muse, and 269 Muses cost 0 coins to collect — enough to fill a first shelf in the Gallery without spending anything. Pick one theme you actually love (fox spirits, spooky season, coffee cups) instead of grabbing at everything; focused collections finish, and finished sets pay the +100 bonus.

Then climb: spend your signup coins on one Legendary you keep coming back to, and let daily visits and streaks build toward the Mythics. The full map of rooms is on the collections index and the Muse Avatars hub.

The Long Game

Collectible characters reward patience: editions fill up, sets complete, and a shelf that started with free Muses ends up holding a numbered Divine like Starfall Sanna. Your Vault keeps a collector card for what you own — downloadable, shareable, and stamped with your edition numbers. Start with one character that feels like yours. The rest of the collection tends to follow.
