How to Trade Muse Avatars: Swap a Muse You Own for One You Want

Collecting a Muse avatar is not a one-way street. Once a Muse is yours, it lives in your Vault — and from there you can trade it: a straight swap of a Muse you own for a Muse another collector owns. No Muse Coins change hands, no new edition is created, and nothing moves until the other collector accepts. This guide walks the trade flow exactly as it works live today — the steps, the 7-day window, and the checks that stop a trade from going wrong — and explains how trading differs from the two kinds of gifting.
What Trading a Muse Means
A trade swaps two owned copies. You offer a Muse from your own Vault — say your Tiger, the Mythic of Safari Animals — and name the Muse you want from the other collector's Vault in return. If they accept, both Muses change owners at the same moment: yours leaves your Vault and lands in theirs, and theirs leaves their Vault and lands in yours.
The edition is part of the swap. The trade screens show each Muse's edition number before anything is proposed, and that exact numbered edition is the one that moves — trading never creates a new edition and never changes how many editions of a Muse exist. What you are trading is the specific copy you collected, for the specific copy they collected.

How to Trade a Muse Avatar, Step by Step
Every trade starts in your Vault, on the card of a Muse you own. Each owned Muse carries a 🔁 Trade button alongside its other actions, and the window it opens says the terms plainly before you begin: swap your Muse for a Muse from another collector's Vault, no coins — a straight swap that only happens if they accept.
- Step 1 — open your Vault and tap 🔁 Trade on the Muse you are offering
- Step 2 — type the other collector's name and pick them from the suggestions list (the list shows how many Muses they hold)
- Step 3 — pick the Muse you want from their Vault — the picker shows each Muse's rarity and edition number, and greys out any Muse you already own or that is already in a pending transfer
- Step 4 — check the confirmation screen: You give on one side, You get on the other, with both edition numbers shown
- Step 5 — tap 🔁 Propose trade — the other collector now sees your proposal in the Gifts & Trades section of their Vault

While a Trade Is Waiting: 7 Days, Locked, Cancellable
Proposing a trade moves nothing. Your Muse stays in your Vault, marked as trade pending, and the other collector decides with Accept or Decline in their own Vault's Gifts & Trades section. If they accept, the swap completes for both of you at once. If they decline, the proposal ends and both Muses simply stay where they were.
A proposal does not wait forever: it expires in 7 days if it is never answered, exactly as the confirmation screen tells you before you propose. And until the other collector accepts, you can cancel the trade yourself — from the pending item in your Vault — which frees your Muse again immediately. While any gift or trade is pending, that Muse is locked: it cannot be put into a second gift or trade until the first one finishes or is cancelled.

The Checks That Protect Every Trade
A trade is checked twice — when you propose it, and again at the moment the other collector accepts. The second check matters: days can pass inside the 7-day window, and if anything has changed — a Muse was traded away elsewhere, or one of you has since unlocked the Muse you were about to receive — the trade is voided as a whole rather than half-completed. A partial swap can never happen, because both Muses move only after every check has passed.
- You must own the Muse you offer, and the other collector must own the Muse you ask for
- Neither of you can already own the other's Muse — a trade can never leave anyone with a duplicate
- Neither Muse can be locked in another pending gift or trade
- The same pair of Muses cannot be proposed twice while a proposal is already waiting
- You cannot trade with yourself, and the two sides of a swap must be two different Muses
- You can have at most 20 gifts and trades waiting at once — past that, new proposals wait until some finish or are cancelled

Trade, Gift or Give Away? Three Different Doors
Trading is one of three ways a Muse can change hands on AllTheMuse, and the three are easy to mix up. They differ in one simple thing: what leaves your Vault, and what you pay.
If the Muse you want is one nobody needs to give up — it is still available to unlock — trading is not the door at all: unlock it in the gallery at its rarity price, or browse the Free Muses room, where 269 Muses are free to collect outright. Trading is for the human side of collecting: the swap itself, collector to collector, agreed by both sides.
- Trade — you give a Muse you own and receive a Muse they own in return. No coins. Both sides must agree, and the swap completes only on Accept
- Gift at coin price — from any Muse's page, you pay its normal coin price and a new copy lands in your friend's Vault; your own Vault is unchanged. Our how to gift a Muse guide walks this flow
- Give my Muse — from your Vault, you give away your own copy for free, to a named collector or through a gift link. It leaves your Vault when they claim it, and nothing comes back — a gift, not a swap

Frequently asked questions
Does trading a Muse avatar cost Muse Coins?
No. A trade is a straight swap of two owned Muses — no coins are charged, paid or exchanged on either side. Coins are only involved when you unlock a Muse or gift a new copy at its coin price.
What happens if the other collector never answers my trade?
Nothing moves. The proposal sits in their Vault's Gifts & Trades section for up to 7 days and then expires, your Muse's pending mark clears, and you can propose a new trade. You can also cancel the proposal yourself at any point before they accept.
Does my Muse keep its edition number when I trade it?
Yes. The picker and the confirmation screen show each Muse's edition number, and that exact numbered edition is what changes owner. Trading creates no new edition and does not change a Muse's edition count.
Can I trade for a Muse I already own, or one that is in another trade?
No. The picker greys out Muses you already own and Muses already in a pending transfer, and the same checks run again when a trade is accepted — if either side already owns the other's Muse by then, the trade is voided whole rather than completed in part.
